Hi everyone! It’s so exciting to finally have all the Kilns here, and with a few finishing touches from the all star @jamesfreeman they will be ready soon! Yay!!!

I thought I would introduce their names to you:

  1. Mid-size Kiln Skutt: Helios(Greek God of the Sun)

  2. Large Capacity ConeArt: Athena(Goddess associated with Pottery and Craft)

  3. Large Capacity ConeArt: Vulcan(Roman God of Volcanoes)

I am itching to get these baddies fired up and start putting the really cool stuff I’ve seen made in the kilns. We are so close to lift off!

First kilowatt - The first kiln is being loaded with pyrometric cones to check temperature calibration.

It was at 1100 degrees at midnight!

It successfully fired, turned itself off, and is currently cooling, sitting at around 900 degrees!

We successfully reached temp, if not a little hotter, and will do our first bisque fire in it next Wednesday!

You had said but I forgot. This was to check temperatures for a bisque fire temperature of around 1800F or 1000C using cones 05 and 06 or there abouts?

Yes for Bisque it’s around cone 05-04(~1850-1900), the calibration we did on Athena was to Cone 6(~2200)
