Have you ever made use of Asmbly’s IT infrastructure? …You have?
Well, great! We’re inviting all volunteers, regardless of IT experience level, to join us for our inaugural IT Volunteer Day meeting on March 29th from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM.
There’s a lot that goes into maintaining Asmbly’s digital ecosystem that helps govern and operate the physical space, including our websites, CRM systems, Skedda, Alta Open, security cameras, and general-use computers. These implementations aren’t always perfect, and we occasionally encounter technical issues with these digital systems and tools not functioning properly. Thankfully, the volunteers on the IT committee have worked behind the scenes to ensure that all of Asmbly’s online resources remain accessible to you!
In addition to addressing these issues, we also want to build a roadmap for new features and improvements to make our services more useful and engaging, which is why we’re inviting anyone to come to volunteer day. You don’t need any IT experience to join this meeting if you’re simply interested in sharing ideas or learning how to contribute. We’ll talk about the various ways to get involved, including whether you should use AI to contribute and how our GitHub repo alone is an incredible way to help improve our backend!
When I used the big lasers this weekend I found Tarkin’s chiller was left on when no one was around. A project that may be useful and adjacent to “did I leave the gas on?” set off an alarm or notify stewards if a device is on abnormally long or when there’s no active booking.
Hey everyone! This is a reminder that we’ll be hosting our first IT Volunteer Day this Sunday, March 29th, at 2:00 PM - 4:30 PM.
One topic we’re interested in tackling is improving the automations that support our Neon-based workflows. Classes, Skedda bookings, email systems, Alta Open, and various other permissions all rely on the functionality of Neon automations. During the session, we could explore ways to expand their capabilities, make the overall structure more consistent, and identify opportunities for more people to collaborate.
If you have other ideas, feel free to stop by and share what you’d like to see improved. I’ll also be sharing some ideas about the facility’s computers and ways to enhance your experience with them.
