Irresponsible Humans

Its that old grouchy guy again. Feeling frustrated on Monday morning. Came into the woodshop and was greeted by several machines that were not cleaned. I guess i have to take time out of my session to clean up after others. The rule is if you use a machine you clean the machine. I have noticed that the woodshop is getting dirtier and machines are being abused. This leads to a unsafe unfun working environment. Please be responsible. It is a SHARED space. Think of the next guy. Okay, there it is. Be a responsible member. Asmbly is my favorite place.

As much as I agree with the sentiment of people being responsible for their own mess, the people who leave the messes are not always the same people who participate in the forums.

I’m sorry you came in to a sight like that, but thank you for taking time from your schedule to grab a broom and sweep up, literally and figuratively.

For anyone else that runs into this, please submit a problem report, let us know here, or email facilities@asmbly.org directly.

I take cleanliness very seriously, as piles of dust can lead to bigger problems as you’ve pointed out.

After reviewing camera footage, here are some specific examples of things I’ll broadcast as not appropriate.

  • Using a brush to wipe dust off of the saw stop onto the floor and not using a broom to sweep around the whole machine area
  • Neglecting the white top between saw stops
  • Leaving dust in and around the miter saws (Makita and Dewalt)

To add to Robert’s list:

Don’t forget to clean underneath the tools. In this case, the bandsaws.

The thin veneer of Purple Heart on top was my contribution.
