I have been intending to explore the intersection between stained glass and 3d printing. Long ago I designed some tools for precision grinding (not like machine precision, but better than hand), and some jigs for circle/arc grinding. I think there is a place for printed angle jigs, supports for 3d pieces during soldering, and lots more. Anyone have any difficult tasks that custom tools might help with?
Also, pattern cutting on the vinyl cutter could be really nice.
There are several jigs I’ve had floating around in my head I’d love to make! This is more of a woodworking project, but I’d like to make a jig like this to help with soldering jump rings. For making 3D stained glass pieces, there’s definitely useful jigs we could have, like this one.
I also use the Cricut vinyl cutter to make all my stained glass patterns. It’s great for creating templates for precise cuts, and they’re waterproof which is great when grinding.
Honestly, the Cricut is one of my favorite tools in the shop (with perhaps the worst software I’ve ever used ). It’s great for making glaze resist/ stencils for ceramics too

Thanks, Rachel! I actually planned out the gem shapes on CAD, so I was able to cut and assmble them without a form. Just using painters tape, the pieces supported eachother until I could tack them in place. But I could definitely use more practice getting a clean solder!
And I totally feel ya on getting clean solder lines I’ve been working with copper patina more lately, and it’s so much less forgiving than black patina.
