This post is directed to the admins of asmbly makerspace.
I work in an industry where I have access to used electro-mechanical components. By “used”, I mean they are mostly pulls from prototype equipment but basically brand new. I normally accumulate this stuff at home because I hate to see it relegated to the e-waste bin. I’m now cleaning out my garage and would like to donate this stuff to Asmbly. Is there a need/desire for donations like this?
I don’t really want to piecemeal this stuff to people one-on-one but would rather donate to the makerspace and then makers can use what they need. Some of the items I have is as follows:
Stepper motors (Mostly NEMA-17, 14 and 8)
Linear actuators (mostly NEMA-17 with leadscrews and nuts. Some NEMA-8 with leadscrews)
Mitsumi linear bearing assemblies (new and used)
Rotary worm gearboxes
Optical limit switches
Power supplies, power supplies and power supplies
Some PC main boards
The value of this stuff brand new is in the thousands and I can’t bear to see it thrown it out. I would rather donate it and see it used for projects!
Let me know if you can use this stuff and I can drop it off.
Hey Brian, thanks for thinking of Asmbly for this! I’m certainly interested in making some of this available for our members. How much we can take will depend on the size and number of everything. Can you give a sense of how much we’re talking?
If there’s stuff we can’t accommodate, @JoeN can have dibs.
I’ll have a better idea of the scale after this weekend when I start cleaning up the garage. I’ll need to disassemble/de-brand some of the assemblies and liberate the good stuff before I can see what all is there. It’s definitely not a truck load but more like a few midsized totes worth.
I’ll come back here and attach some pictures when I have it more organized.
Whether it’s directly or via Asmbly, I absolutely could use the stepper motors and the linear bearings and actuators for a specific project I have in mind. I could likely use a lot of the rest. So I’ll keep tabs on this thread and keep me in the loop.
Me as well! Interested in some of the linear bearings and actuators, stepper motors, and potentially power supplies. Would love to connect after John figures out how to appropriate it
If you’re around this week I can swing by either at lunchtime or after 5pm today or Wednesday. I have everything pretty much sorted and it all fits in my Jeep in several boxes. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to be able to attach photos or links here.
