'Tis the third Tuesday, so Home Tinkering SIG will meet tonight from 7 to 8:30. I have some fun stuff prepared! Valerie and I went to the CEDIA expo, where lots of new consumer electronics stuff gets announced and demoed, and we have some fun pics and videos to share.
Also, while I was setting up git to track my Home Assistant config, github made me refresh my expired ssh key. I used that same key pair for all my other homelab things, so then I had to push the new key to all those systems too. I’ve been doing this every year when the key expires in github, so I thought… There has to be a better way to deal with these keys. Of course, I tinkered… and I found one! Tonight I’ll present some basics about ssh, what ssh keys are, and a really convenient way I discovered to manage multiple keys. Should be helpful info whether you use ssh all the time or have never even heard of it!
Of course everyone is welcome to join and share any home-tinkering adventures they’ve been on lately. As always, the zoom link for attending remotely is:
Cool! I’ll be there and will probably have some questions about Dimmers. We are remodeling our house and I’m struggling to find dimmers with the following requirements:
Reasonably prized
Ideally Zigbee
No lights at night or able to turn all lights off… Shelly… oh Shelly you’ve failed me.
I’m happy to run with alternatives if anyone has any ideas
Home Tinkering always meets the 3rd Tuesday of the month, 7 to 8:30 in the MPR. I’ll post a recap and upload all the photos and videos I showed. Home to see you at the next one! I already have some good stuff planned… We didn’t get to talk about SSH tonight, so that can be next time. Also, I’m working on building a system of fans for my electronics cabinet that I’ll have some good videos of.
I was surprised to see y’all in the MPR because I clearly forgot this was tonight. See y’all next month!
I’ve added some custom code to my Home Assistant to track my hydroponics EC and pH readings (per device reservoir) with the hope of getting pH adjustment recommendations. Plants are also tracked as entities so I can see age. Greens are doing better than ever as a result of the additional focus:
