Howdy tinkerers!
For next week’s meeting, @Iammikecohen is going to demo something I’ve certainly wanted to build for myself, and maybe you have too: He will show how to use an ESP board (a tiny, very cheap, single-board computer) to connect to a temperature sensor and a fan, and program it to turn on the fan based on the sensed temperature. Then he’ll show how to integrate it into Home Assistant, so you can monitor the temperature and fan status, using the Home Assistant Green we demoed setting up back in January’s meeting.
It’s really empowering to be able to make your own simple devices to monitor and control fans, motors, lights, or anything around the house – it’s even cooler when you can attach them to Home Assistant and keep tabs on them in the same place as all your other home automation things. This is meant to be a simple example of something you can get a LOT of mileage out of with a bit of imagination. Thanks Mike!

Hope to see y’all on Tuesday!
