I’m trying to cut sides of a box for a furniture project using Tarkin, and I can’t seem to get Tarkin to poke through. I’m running 100% power on 10 mm/s, and I can’t seem to get it to work. It’s 1/2” thick russian baltic birch I bought from Fine Lumber. Any advice?
First if the plywood is 60” X 60” (1200mm X 1200 mm) you have the right material. It doesnt matter where you got it. If the sheet of plywood is 4’ X 8,” it will NOT cut. Focus is very important when cutting thick materials once you go past 1/4.” if you click on the view folder go down the list about halfway click on material library (don’t click on the one towards the top), it will give you a window with the appropriate starting settings for materials on Tarkin. Usually the settings in that library are right on. One thing you could do is focus the cutting triangle to the middle of the board which would bring the focus (or laser head) one to two mm’s closer to the material. If you dont know what I’m talking about Google it. There used to be a label below the controller on Tarking with the instructions in how to focus this way. Also used to be included in the description of the material library. If you do not know what size of sheet the plywood came out of, look at the edge if you see black glue lines it will NOT cut.
Fantastic reply Jose. Thank you sir.
The only thing I can add: I’m pretty sure the manual focus measurement on that label for Tarkin is for the old air assist cone. I’ll touch base with Danny and get that updated soon.
Dang, I did buy 4x8. Didn’t realize there was a difference here. I appreciate the response!
It is but when the tube starts to deteriorate this procedure works for a little bit.
