Hand Tool Workbench Update

The hand tool workbench has received a lot of love during the last week. Using hand planes, it was completely flattened, the Veritas twin screw vice

was repaired, and the vice jaw checks were flattened and made parallel.

The workbench top is currently in the process of receiving a new finish (danish oil) and will be out of use for the rest of the week while the finish cures. I apologize for any inconvenience, however I believe it will be worth it in the long run.

Beautiful! Will the hand planning class be coming back next year?

Thank you @Mollie! I had a blast planing it flat and smooth and got the benefit of solid workout too.

Yes, I’m planning to begin several hand tool related classes and a hand tool SIG (special interest group) if there is enough interest. I’m also keen to start up a group—or club if you will—of hand tool enthusiasts, users, or people just wanting to dip their toes in and try them out. I think it would be fun for the group to build the same project, something simple to start like a shaker candle box with hand cut dovetails. Working together is a great way to teach, learn, build up the community, encourage each other, and most importantly, have fun.

I’d love to help out with getting some hand tool classes going; looking forward to it!
