I’ve noticed with the increase in ceramics memberships that the glazes provided have been depleted. Is there an updated statement somewhere for ceramics members about what glazes the studio will be providing?
I noticed 4 new buckets of dip glazes but heard they’re not all working. I didn’t notice instructions for using them so I haven’t tried. I’d love some clarification about what is going on so I know what to expect going forward.
Hi Allison! Juliana and I are working towards a more sustainable solution. Orders have been placed for a few more glazes from armadillo, and some of our volunteers are working very hard on the dip glazes. I believe some of them are available for use, it was only the blue that came out differently than expected.
All around. We are working towards a consistent, sustainable, and reliable setup for glazes. This will not be resolved tomorrow, but will be in the very near future.
We all know how important glazes are to the process, and we want to support it the best we can while making sure we are not extending Asmblys pockets too far
I’ve been a bit silent here because we are still adjusting new procedures to offer glazes for members, in the light of current cuts in budget.
While this is still evolving, here are a few things we know:
it is economically not viable to offer more than 15 commercial glazes in tubes for a studio of 60. We now see it was ambitious to try it, and no other studios do it, for the same reason we were not able to maintain it;
We can guarantee that we will keep providing free underglazes in 9 colors, and a free clear dipping for the future;
All members are welcomed to use their own commercial glazes from Mayco, Amaco in the lines approved and listed in our wiki;
Besides underglazes, we will keep providing 8 Amaco Celadon glazes in the colors listed in the wiki. These are the tubes that have a test tile glued to the lid;
We are also working on our in house free dipping glazes, and we hope to keep providing 5 of them through December, but because they depend, by their nature, of a bit more training in the user part, we also need to update members with a Glazes workshop.
I hope I have answered your questions, and thank you for posting here!
