Calling all makers that are looking for an opportunity to “give back”!
Our Shared Kitchen, a nonprofit born & raised here in Austin, prepares hot & nutritious meals and hand-delivers them to people experiencing homelessness and/or food insecurity around Austin - to encampments, under bridges and overpasses, into the woods, etc.
They’re looking to experiment with some merch to sell as a fundraising channel, and the challenges are that (a) buying small quantities makes the per-unit price too high to net any revenue from the sale price, and (b) buying large quantities is risky because they haven’t yet been able to validate what types of merch their audience would actually purchase, via the website, an event etc.
If you have the skills and appetite to create some samples for them, your contribution would have such a profound impact on helping them explore this type of effort without risking losses on expensive items that don’t sell.
Here are some examples of items they’re considering, but are open to anything else that someone here is willing to help with!
- Laser-etched glasses - they’ll have a table at Meanwhile Brewery during their Austin Vendor Pop-up Market on Oct 13, so it would be cool to engrave some Meanwhile pint glasses with Our Shared Kitchen branding to sell there as a sort of ‘limited edition’ collectible
- Other laser-etched/printed drinkware, like mugs, insulated water bottles etc
- Hats - baseball, trucker etc, printed or iron-on patches with OSK branding
- Re-usable bags, t-shirts, other apparel etc - again either printed or with iron-on patches (or any other method!)
If you are interested in helping, have questions, or are just generally curious about OSK, please don’t hesitate to respond here or email me directly at give@oursharedkitchen.org
