Getting started on metal CNC?

Hi everyone! A new member here (about a couple of months).

I would like to use the CNC machine to cutout some aluminum plates for a project. I assume I need to take some safety class to be able to use the Tormach (?). Can someone please recommend the classes I need to take to get started on metal CNC project?

Thanks.

I assume you have not taken the metal shop safety course. I know there is a 2 part Tormach course. It covers cam and Tormach.

I have not seen your design. Sometimes with some careful thought. A lot of parts can be made on the vertical mill. There is a class there as well.

Post a pic if you don’t mind.

Is Milling Techniques a prerequisite?

Not anymore no, just metal shop safety and that can also be taken after the fact. Never a bad idea though

@himanshusave and I were chatting in the shop about this a little bit ago. I mentioned to him that sheet aluminum (and other soft metals like brass) can be cut on the wood CNCs as long as you don’t use cutting fluids and dial in settings appropriately.
