Hey all,
Asmbly is registering to be a host studio for this year’s GACA Studio Tour! The Greater Austin Clay Studio Tour is an event to welcome the Austin community into area studios to take part in demos and workshops, purchase work from area clay artists, and experience what Austin has to offer the clay world. The tour is on April 11th and 12th and registrations close after March 1st. We are currently planning to host a weekend of tours, demos, and hands-on projects alongside a gallery of Asmbly-made ceramics pieces that showcase what is possible when you have an entire makerspace to back up your traditional clay tools and techniques.
We are also interested in hosting vendors during this time. We are going to register as an open host studio so that other ceramicists around Austin have the ability to vend with us for the event, but want to give Asmbly members the first chance to secure a vendor spot if there is interest. If you would like to vend at the Studio Tour, please reply here so we have a general idea of count.
A note on cost from the Studio Tour Website:
“We want to keep the tour affordable for artists, so we will only be asking for a $40 participation fee for each artist, and that you must be a GACA member and have paid your annual dues of $25. The $40 participation fee will help us with the cost of promotional materials and administration. If you are not a current member, you will be able to add that to your registration and pay during checkout.”
Other Aspects of the Event
Beyond vending, we are hoping for volunteer participation to run our exciting weekend. Please let us know if you would like to demonstrate a ceramics techniques you are excited about or have an idea for a simple hands-on workshop. We would love to hear more!
We will also be setting up a sort of “Asmbly Possibilities Museum”, a small gallery of work made at Asmbly using tools or techniques made possible by access to our full suit of shop areas. (Examples: texture added by 3d printed rollers, pieces made using cnc or laser cut formers/molds, sublimated tiles, custom extruder die, etc). If you have a piece that you would like to showcase in the gallery, please let us know!
We will also need volunteers to provide tours, help set up the space and clean up after the event, and handle all of the other aspects of putting on an event like this. We will put out an official volunteer sign-up form soon.
We are extremely excited to participate this year, and can’t wait to showcase both asmbly as a studio, and the impressive and inspirational art created by our members!
