Four Week Furniture Making Class - Grab your spot!

Hey all, you might have seen this side table sitting in the new lobby:

It’s a special one! It’s called the “Jupiter Side Table” and it is a design featured in Nick Offerman’s woodworking book, “Good Clean Fun”. The creator of the design has graciously allowed us to use his plans for our first multi-week woodworking class!

@daryanr is a skilled woodworker and furniture maker, and is excited to share his skills with you! As this is our first time hosting this kind of class, we wanted to get a feel for availability. We plan to host the class as often as possible, but need to have all three slots filled (the current max capacity) to use everyone’s time the best for a longer commitment.

We are planning to start the first class in the first week of June. It will be split into four sessions, three hours each. The course is $350 for 12 hours of instruction and all materials are provided Best of all, you will leave with a beautiful piece of furniture that you made yourself.

The Jupiter Side Table is a great introduction to furniture making techniques and traditional joinery. We’ll be using African mahogany (aka sapele) for the top and hard maple for the legs and rails. You’ll learn how to layout & create joinery for mortise and tenons joints and half lap joints, cutting circles, tapering legs, counterboring, resawing, and bookmatching. You’ll gain experience using the bandsaw, drill press, table saw, milling machines like the jointer and planer, and hand held tools like the plunge router.

After completing this course students should be able to:

  • Select appropriate lumber for their furniture pieces
  • Safely use milling machines, the table saw, band saw and routers to mill, prepare, and shape pieces.
  • Create a tapered leg using a jig on the table saw
  • Cut mortise and tenon joints utilizing a plunge router and a table saw with a cross cut sled
  • Cut half lap joinery using a dado stack on the table saw
  • Create a circle using a router and a circle cutting jig

This course is the best way for you to get practice with some of the most vital tools in the shop while being guided by an experienced furniture maker.
