I’m a fan of Hank Green, and his recent video gave me new insights about the current government shut down. If you’re remotely interested in the topic, giving it a watch. This is not about politics, parties, or movement, there are simply real people hurting all around us and I want to do what I can to help. I’ll be making a donation to the Central Texas Food Bank, and if you need help you can find your local food bank here.
I don’t normally ask others to donate, we can make up our own minds. But this is important. As a community, and as part of Asmbly, we have a chance to show up for the people around us. Please consider giving what you can.
In case you are thinking about it, here’s a comment on that video worth highlighting:
CTFB is great. They have a great rating for how efficiently they provide help.
We donate there every year, but my partner and I made an extra donation over the weekend. I’ve volunteered there multiple times in different areas (kitchen, food intake, meal packaging), and it’s really well organized. Don’t forget to take a sweatshirt if you might be in the refrigerated warehouse space!
Slightly off topic: Asmbly also has a charity navigator page but it seems limited to what can be auto-generated from the form 990. It looks as though there is a process for providing additional information. It might be worth at least getting the website link working, but that probably requires attention from someone in leadership.
Anyway, this thread made me realize I hadn’t donated to CTFB since amplify Austin day, so I sent a donation in this morning.
Thanks for flagging that @rlemerts! I just created an account and uploaded some verification docs. They’re approval takes a few days, but I should be able to get our profile updated in the next week or so.
