I did a demo on how to make one of these Float Frames that I make for my photos.
I had premade a bunch of frame edges beforehand, as well as made this picture frame miter sled for demo purposes (At home I just use my normal sled with a 45º guide block held down with T-slot clamps). Another thing I had to do off-camera was mounting the image to a wood substrate. Pretty much anything that needs to dry needs to be produced prior to demo time.
I was able to demonstrate up to the point where we glue the frame up. I’d still like to demonstrate how to add splines, and then finally finishing/painting/hanging. Perhaps all this is a good cause to not make frames in a 1-2hr demo class? It would be possible to show all of these things if we had several frames pre-made in various states of completion. I might have been able to add the splines depending on the work order - but I’m a little hesitant about setting off the saw-stop brake due to the wood being a bit moist post-glue up.
There is an opportunity to use the laser cutters in tandem with the woodshop on this project as well. Which could help demonstrate the x-functional capabilities available at Asmbly. I’ve not taken the laser class, so I’m likely not the guy to demonstrate said capabilities.
