I would like to learn how to replace and/or flatten the spoilboards on both lagunas. Anyone willing to teach me?
I most often have time during the weekdays, but could make a special trip at other times as well.
I think Michael Morris was going to write up the spoilboard flattening process for the Laguna Swift as a Wiki article. I am planning to do the same for the Laguna IQ. Right now I’m waiting for @jamesfreeman to send me the VCarve files to do the IQ spoilboard flattening, but with his new delightful baby he’s been a very busy guy. When I do receive the files I’ll send you message and we can arrange a time to meet and do it together.
It’s not hard. The new spoilboard MDF strips are stacked to the right of the IQ. The basic steps are drilling the front set of holes, screwing down spoilboards using the front holes on the IQ, drilling the middle and back set of holes, screwing down those holes, zeroing the surface on the far left corner, surfacing the spoilboards, surfacing the remaining 1/4" on the right and rear edges by manually driving the spindle over these leftovers, and finally cutting the dog holes. P.S. I might not have the step exactly right, but that’s why I want to do the write-up for the Wiki.
P.S. Weekday afternoons are generally good for me too.
That sounds about like what I expected. Just those little details of “where is x-y=0?” and the programs for the holes, yadda yadda.
However, I should have definitely checked the Wiki before asking. I didn’t…learning.
Thanks Brian. I should be working opn the small CNC this afternoon if you will be around. Shoot me a text and we can coordinate. 512-993-6022

The files for the big one are probably on the desktop.
@TinkerDrinkerMakerMo, I’ve signed up tomorrow (May 27 at 1 PM) for time on the Laguna IQ to replace the spoilboard. If you can make it great!
