First time using Fusion — is this file laser ready?

I hopped on the struggle bus and learned a bit of Fusion today, to create a jig for something I’m making. I have a file ready but actually it won’t let me upload here  @NickE is there a way I could send this to you to check it out? Thanks for the class last night!

You need it in a vector format- DXF or SVG.

In Fusion, you can take any 2D sketch, right click, and select “Export DXF”.

You probably want to unclick “construction geometry” and “points”.

A solid object in Fusion 3d with a flat plane you want to laser cut- like you designed a box in 3D CAD already by starting with the bottom, extruding it, maybe some other 3D CAD ops, and now you want to laser cut the box side but no 2D sketch has that perspective-

In that case, do “Create Sketch” with the side selected (must be a flat 2D face to base a sketch on) to start a 2D sketch from that perspective, “Create>Project/Include>Intersect” and it will create Projected geometry of that face on the sketch. Then Export DXF.

DXF geometry is unitless, so be sure to check it’s imported on the scale you intended. DXF can have a header with advisory declarations of what the unit should be, but be sure to check it’s not mixing up mm and inches or furlongs or whatever when loaded into Lightburn.

Yeah, I’ll DM you my email!

DXF is unitless but Fusion defaults the numbers to the designs units. So if you design in inches the exported files numbers will be inches and should be appropriately scaled in Lightburn if that file is also set to inches.

Beautiful, thank you! I had created it in 3d, so I followed your steps, and I think it worked to get it back to a 2d plane. I appreciate it!
