Are the email notifications still happening for ceramics firings? I’m not getting them anymore, and almost lost a few pieces to the ‘last chance’ shelf. Is there a better way to know when kilns are unloaded?
Hi Kristin,
Thank you for reaching out — I’m glad you were able to pick up your piece!
Email notifications should still be going out, but we did experience a technical issue a while back that went undetected for several weeks. (I’ve reached out to our Kiln team to confirm emails are still working correctly as of today.) During that time, some notifications weren’t sent, and we followed up with everyone who had taken a class in that two-month window once we discovered the problem. It’s possible your address was affected — are you a current member? If so, do you know roughly when you placed your pieces on the shelf? If you took a class instead, when was that?
Here’s a quick overview of our usual timeline: with 2 bisque firings and 3 glaze firings each week, most pieces are ready within a week of going on the shelf. For class participants, the turnaround is a bit longer, since we need to let your piece dry, trim it, dry it fully, and then fire it.
As for the last chance shelf — we’ve only had to let pieces go a handful of times in our year-plus of operation, and that’s typically after a piece has gone uncollected for more than three months.
As a general rule: if you’ve placed a piece on a bisque or cone 6 firing shelf and haven’t received a notification within a week or two, it’s most likely been fired and is waiting for pickup. If you took a class and haven’t heard anything after three weeks, please reach out to kilnops@asmbly.org and we’ll be happy to help.
Hi Stanton - I’m a member (also followed up via the ceramics@ email but i wasn’t sure if that wasn’t as closely monitored?) still trying to figure out how communications, etc work. these are personal pieces, not from a class. thanks for the overview! this is really helpful info!
I just checked my spam folder, and it seems your email went there for some reason. Apologies on that front! I’m usually pretty good about responding promptly to communications- if you ever reach out and don’t hear back in a day or two, feel free to message me here. ![]()
I’ll let you know what I find out about the emails, but they should be going out. Thanks again for bringing the issue to my attention!
