Filament up for grabs! Also drying and storage

There is a bin of filament that is available for member use. It is under the table to the left of the Prusa enclosure, just outside of the textile room.

If you would like to do a print and you don’t care about it being a particular color, feel free to grab some filament from this bin. If you have leftover filament that you’re not going to use, feel free to cross out your name on the spool (you’re labeling your spools, right?) and leave it in this bin.

Do you 3D print using filaments other than PLA? Many filaments are sensitive to moisture, so you may get more consistent results if the filament is dry. Asmbly has a filament dryer (more on the way!) and some airtight storage boxes for members to use. We have ordered desiccant to put in those boxes to help keep things dry, but right now the humidity of the room is only around 22%.

If you remove another member’s filament from the printers and you notice that it is not PLA, it would be nice if you place it in a box.

Note that using the dryer requires some pre-planning. You’ll want to run it for hours to remove moisture, so consider coming in a day before your print and prepping your filament in the dryer.

I got a bunch of desiccant (dessicant?) packets, if you’d like me to bring them in.

Our order of bulk desiccant just came in, so each of the boxes now has 100g of loose pellets (not candy! do not eat!) in it. But if you have extra that isn’t being used, sure, we could throw it in there too.
