I recommend your drop shelves to all my mill class students. And I have three projects for Asmbly underway now using aluminum from your drops. Thanks for being such a great resource for us!

What your listed prices for steel and aluminum drops?

I believe they are normally $1 a pound for steel and $3 a pound for aluminum, so they are offering to halve that.

This is Awesome! Thank you @M4U-Dom I have been there a few times, but was told they do not sell drops.

This discount means I can stop hoarding my supply and start freely making stuff. Is there any sheet metal? (Stainless. scaps.) My kid just finished welding class at ACC and needs material to practice on. I was also wondering about the tiny scraps that do not make it to the drops bin…They are perfect as pre-cut coupons with lots of surface area to weld.

RD,

Yes, we do have some sheet metal in our Drop Zone. Stainless included. Next time you stop by ask for me and I can show you the bins that go to the scrap yard if you’d like to dig though. Don’t forget your gloves!

Ethan,

Yes, those are the prices. What does the metal shop use most or would like to see? Tubing, sheet metal, bar stock? Aluminum, steel? If you all had the room and would like, we could put together a skid of drop material and deliver to you all at no charge.

Awesome! Awesome! Awesome!

I’m guessing square tubing’s not going to go to waste.

I could use a 3/16" 4" angle in aluminum, no inner fillet, at least 5" long
I had to build the current mount for Tarkin’s new head with stock with an inner fillet, which keeps it from being able to fit closely on the carriage but it was what I had on hand. I’d like to build it better soon

Whoops, sorry folks who are following this topic and might have just gotten some confusing notifications about it. I just inadvertently marked the whole thread as a “personal message” while I was trying to just reply directly to @M4U-Dom. I put the topic back in the Metal Shop space, so hopefully the damage is undone. :cowboy_hat_face:

I’ve been meaning to go to a metal shop and buy some aluminum stock but when you’re brand new to a skill it can be a little intimidating. M4U made it really easy. Walked in and noticed the big obvious sign for the drop zone, got some basic instructions (grab what you want, weigh it, and write it down on a piece of paper with their many pens and paper pads), and checked out quickly and easily. The cuts on everything I saw were clean and square and I’m extremely happy with the amount of metal I got for the price.

Thanks, y’all! It’s great having a business like this around when you’re just starting out.

Thank you so much @M4U-Dom! Just checking since this thread is 6 months old, is this discount something y’all are still offering to Asmbly members?

Also adding your photos again in the thread so it’s easier to people to see what you’ve typically got without having to download them.

After the metal shop move, I plan to buy and maintain a selection of aluminum pieces from their drop section for members to purchase here, like how we supply plywood in the laser area. We will likely also do this with sheet steel once the fiber laser is in operation.

Hey, Ethan.

Ping me before you buy anything. I was talking with him and I think with the right sort of coordination they will give us more metal than we can use. Especially if it’s for classroom usage.

I could have hauled off a 4 ft by 4-ft cube the last time I was there and talked to him.

I just wanted to coordinate with space availability at ASMBLY in advance.
