Dorian power issue

On 9/13/24 I was cutting 1/4" (5.8mm) acrylic on Dorian and had a hard time cutting through cleanly. I submitted a problem report but never got an answer. Is there a link to follow reports submitted from a phone? I don’t see anything about it on this page. I finally found a setting that worked but was slow (80/7). Any speed at 100% power melted the edges. I set the focus in the center of the material but one corner still didn’t cut completely - I had to use a knife.

I think the problem is the acrylic you are using is extruded or something other than cast acrylic. This is most likely why it’s getting melty and requires more power. Try using cast acrylic. I typically order my line from Houston Acrylics. You can get it on Amazon but not all vendors always provide what they say.

I was working on Dorian today and was cutting 1/2" ply without issue, so I’m inclined to agree that it’s a material issue.

Thanks for the feedback. I don’t know how to tell if the material is really cast acrylic but I did get the job done. Its good to know that Dorian is working correctly.

Cast or extruded acrylic cuts about the same in my experience, it’s for engraving where extruded acrylic looks bad compared to cast

I pulled out two scraps I had in identical thicknesses. One was obviously cast acrylic, the other I wasn’t sure of its origin but it outwardly appeared to be acrylic. I can say for sure it wasn’t polycarbonate, as that turns yellow/black and cracks and chars. There are rarer clear plastics but I’m fairly certain it was extruded acrylic.

Testing was not kind to it. Despite being the same thickness, the second sample had to be slowed to half the speed It was also exceeding melt-y and parts tended to weld back into place

I did a power test on 9/13 and Dorian performed as expected.

I did some work with new testing equipment and noted that Dorian’s focus tool is about 1mm too short. I am printing a new tool shortly.
