December 2024 CNC SIG Recap

All,

This is the recap of the December CNC event–last one of the year! Zoom link is at the bottom of the post, as always. Remember, we’re targeting 12:30pm as the time for our CNC SIG in January 2025. Cya guys soon!

@Christopher showed us his template for the drainage grate he was cutting before sending the plans to his machinist to make it out of steel:

Kathy then went over some of the trials and tribulations of epoxy:

@bwatt shared with us this project that we all looked at for the longest time while thinking, “Okay, now what the hell is this for?” Thankfully, after explaining all the work he’s done with the project he then said, “And I don’t know where the hell this is going!” We recommended he use it as a display case for jewelry or other small items:

Al startled us with his work of art he put together after forging for scrap!

@jamesfreeman described his inlay process he’s been working through and mentioned how it might’ve been better if he used the vCarve Inlay setup instead of the old 3-2-1 method.

@TravisGood shared with us what they did at the CNC Salon:

And that’s the summary of our meeting from last Sunday. Enjoy the holidays and I look forward to seeing you in the New Year!

Anyone CNC-curious who’s wondering about the value of these meeting should look at the pictures of projects presented. The variety was wide, the quality was high and the subject matter expertise was deep. These informal meetings of friendly people are a great source of CNC inspiration and learning.

The CNC SIG is well worth the effort to attend.

I agree with @TravisGood. “The force is strong with this community” Yoda told me.

Travis is spot on. Moving it to 12-30 will help, as I have frequently had clashes and could not attend at the 9am time.
