Darling Dorian problem

The dorian is only cutting through on the right side of the bed despite uniform tie downs. Is it possible the bed’s off kilter?

Certainly possible. Were you by chance able to do any measurements while you were there? E.g. using the focus stick with your material on one side of the bed and then the other?

I used Dorian right after and I did a cross table cut (about 36") from right to left on 1/8" acrylic. I do believe it went through uniformly, but now you’ve made me wonder…

Dorian’s honey isn’t attached to the machine’s bed, it can move, so it’s entirely possible to get something underneath it that props up a corner. A more difficult problem is if the leadscrews are out of timing.

Focus stick can be used to confirm all 4 corners are the same distance from the cone.

Another problem would be alignment of mirrors. This may cause the beam to clip on the cone as distance from the mirror and its off-center error increases. This will carry a symptom of poor cutting on either the right or front (user side) of the machine, unless someone has already attempted to adjust mirrors without understanding the process in which case it’s possible to have multiple mirrors out of alignment and it could have a net error on the left or rear of the machine that gets better on the far sides where combined errors from different axes cancel themselves out.
