Hi, I was wondering what machines at the space would be appropriate for cutting 4’x8’ Masonite panels into smaller shapes? Some will have 135 and 45 degree angles on the corners. AND, Does anyone have experience cutting with that machine or working with Masonite panels that would be willing to help me? I could pay you if it requires a longer period of time and instruction. I have used bandsaws and table saws several years ago, but not the machines at Asmbly so will need instruction to get back into it. Thanks!
Hi, masonite is just engineered wood, right? Seems like the table saws would be your best bet. We also have a panel saw that you can use to rough cut your sheets so that they’re easier to handle on the table saw; 4x8 sheets are tough to handle yourself but doable with another person or two helping. How thick/heavy are they?
Also, have you taken the woodshop safety course? That should be good to give you your refresher on our tools
The CNC could also do the job, but if your shapes are pretty simple then they could be overkill. You could also use the track saw, especially for cutting the corners off as I’m not sure we have a good miter jig for large pieces.

Adam has provided many great answers. The panel saw would be excellent to cut down panels to a rough size before proceeding. Then table saw or track saw would be the next best choice. I’m leaning towards the track saw being the best option. Easy to use and best for angles on plywood.
You will need to take woodshop safety to use the tools. Also, for anyone who hasn’t been a member for a year or more, orientation is also required to be taken again as things around the space change.
If time is of the essence, you can post in the Maker Wanted section of the forums for help.
Hope to see you in the shop soon!
Are you referring to this kind of panel @laughie? If so, this is something that can be cut on the big lasers (once the size of the sheet is reduced to fit the bed).
Yes like that exactly! @valerie So with lasers does it follow an ACAD file and cut it for you? How long and wide can a piece be for those big lasers? The longest piece I need is around 7’4” x 1’
Yes! When cutting or etching, the lasers follow a vector path. It can be one of the fastest ways to cut stuff with the least amount of cleanup and waste.
Unfortunately, 7’4" wouldn’t fit. 63" is the widest bed we have. Here’s more specifics on the bed sizes Category:Lasers - Asmbly Wiki
Another thing to note with lasers and this material is that you get a black edge on the cut line. Not a bad thing necessarily, but just something to keep in mind if there is a specific aesthetic you’re going for (and a consideration if most of your pieces would fit and you decide to do a mix of approaches).
