The main shop Compressor, the Atlas Copco GX4, has continued to overheat intermittently but repeatedly. We do not yet have a diagnosis and may have to bring in an outside technician to look at it.
In the meantime, we have gotten several smaller compressors online. Michael Doto brought a small compressor that I hooked up to the large belt sander. It’s very loud and tended to vibrate itself across the floor before I tied it up, but it seems to be doing the job.
Joe Ngo has brought in two more substantial compressors. I have hooked one up to the shop compressed air lines. It’s a bit small to run our entire system, and I’d like to avoid straining it. Brief and low flow uses (e.g., nailers, the big mill tool changer, clearing chips while machining) should be fine, but this compressor may not be able to keep up with higher flow uses, such as the sand blaster. I may set up Joe’s second large compressor just for that.
Asmbly’s own mobile compressor, which also failed at this inopportune time, should also be repaired soon; the main part I need should arrive tomorrow.
