CNC Salon 1/17/25

Join us at this month’s CNC Salon as we dive into the world of two sided carving. We will be building these fun 2 sided mazes. I will have ball bearings for those who need them, bring your own wood and acrylic (I recommend raiding the scrap carts in the workshop and laser room).

We will be meeting at Buddy’s Burgers at 530 for food and conversation and then be on the CNCs 630-930

See you there!

Looking forward to it!

From the downloaded PDF, bring your own wood and acrylic

  • 7” x 7“ x 1” Oak Board
  • 14“ x 7” x 0.116“ Clear Acrylic

Tools if you have them

  • 1/4” Ball Nose Endmill
  • 1/4” End Mill
  • 60˚ VBit

Steve said he’d bring some ball bearings

  • 4 mm

If y’all ever want to try something different for dinner, I’d recommend Vasquez Restaraunt, at E. Braker and Bluff Bend (just east of I35).

I have made a few variations of this jig for the Laguna IQ:

It’s useful for squaring to the machine and doing two sided cuts. I’ll try to make it this week if the benefits of this jig aren’t self evident.

I’ll be there for the social portion!

Is there a local place where I can buy the Clear Acrylic? Or does someone have some spare/extra acrylic that I could get from you and pay you before the Salon.

I bought a five pack off amazon and will bring with me

Allied plastics is right next door.

@SteveW Will $20.00 cover you for one of your five-pack?

I bought this. Happy to share at no cost.

@SteveW et al, Argh, I just realized I have a conflict and won’t make the CNC Salon on Friday night. I had been looking forward to it. Thanks for your offer of the acrylic, but it’ll have to be another time. I’d love to see pictures of the results. Bri

I’ll be there

Tonight we learned that CNC is a great team sport. Mistakes were made, lessons were learned, community was built.

Like the marble in the maze, we are still working towards the finish line.

Join us next month (details tbd) when we will be delving into 3d carving.
