Clay Extruder Die Project

I took Taylor’s 3D printing class a couple of weeks ago and have been working on some projects for the Ceramic Studio. My first success were these two custom dies for the clay extruder. Two versions of the same design– one 3/4” and one 1/2’ wide.

I am currently prototyping a die for the clay extruder that would produce hollow tubes. I am on my third iteration– the first one would not rejoin the seams of the extruded clay as it was pushed out, the second one didn’t fit as I mismeasured a component– here’s hoping the third one will be more successful.

Reminds me of pasta extruder dies as well - like a bucatini form.

it’s funny you say that because my first hollow tube die prototype produced what I described as lasagna noodles. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I’d love to see a picture of your latest die attempt and the clay result.

Hey Brian,

I’ll take photos and share the next time I am in the studio. My design was very similar to the spider die you shared.
