Wanted to check in and see how everyone’s doing, and also to share some projects that I’ve completed since I’ve last seen y’all. The first is a ring box for my (now) fiance Ally! This was the last project I completed at ASMBLY before I moved out of Austin :’)
The second, and my first woodworking project at my new makerspace, Artisan’s Asylum, is a new bookshelf that Ally and I designed together. It’s a bit of an oddball but that’s why I like it
And the last, and most time-consuming, is a custom, 3-D printed split flap display! I’ve been working on this basically since around Thanksgiving, and finally finished it recently. It’s based on a Vestaboard note, and contains 45 modules, each of which can display 64 characters. Besides the electronics and hardware, it’s 100% 3D printed! I also had to learn how to make my own PCBs for this project. It was a lot of work, but a lot of fun too, and I made a YouTube video about it if you want to check it out!
Congratulations Adam & Ally The ring box is beautiful as is the ring!!!
The book shelve is totally up my alley–I LOVE it And that split flap display? Incredible especially considering the amount of time and effort spent making it. I’m looking forward to watching the video later today.
They are all amazing! What a sweet bookshelf design. Speaking of… I was zooming in to admire your work and spies some Brandon Sanderson books on the shelf; 100% approve haha!
First off, congrats on the engagement! Having that ring box be not only handmade but also the final project here in Austin at Asmbly is extra special. I’m sure she really cherishes that (beautiful ring too!)
That bookshelf is EPIC!!! I’m so glad you are staying in touch and what an awesome project! Your video edit is fantastic and the sound those split flap displays make is so weirdly/wonderfully relaxing. Really well done sir
Also, congrats on growing your channel so much! 5.27k subscribers and counting is really impressive! This video is sure to break 100k views and you did an excellent job of putting in engagement encouraging nuggets that feel like genuine connection points.
I’m thinking there’s at least 27 items in that photo that you made (assuming some of the framed art is either a frame you made or art you made, or both!)
I hope Artisan’s Asylum is treating you well and hoping Jason and I can come visit sometime in the next year. If you’re going to Open Sauce this year, let us know so we can be sure to meet up!
