Changing hinges - never a smooth process, y’know!

I’ve changed lots of hinges in my life, and I know it’s never smooth, and yet somehow I always convince myself at the outset of any such project that this time it will be so much better. :woman_facepalming:,

I’ll measure everything (with pictures!)

I’ll bring in one of the old hinges when I got to the store

I’ll only get a few to test everything out and make sure it works.

So I install one set, and it’s perfect. The soft close is exactly what I want, and everything lines out. I go ahead and open the second package to finish out this first set, and as I close the door to admire my handiwork, there is a clear and obvious problem.

Well, I only bought the two sets for a reason. Back to Rockler tomorrow.

Feeling a bit unhinged?

They should be adjustable. There will be some Philips screws in the hinges, other than the screws you used to install them. Some honey are more adjustable than others, but you should at least be able to move each home left or right, tuning the gap between doors, so that it is even.

These ones have adjustability up and down, but not side to side. These are meant to have a 3/8” overlap, and I think I just need to go one step up to 1/2”.

Update here. I’ve gotten the correct size, and so the project continues mostly successfully at this point. But naturally now I’m to the part where the gaps are lining up just a hair differently - just enough to catch your eye

But I knew this was likely before I started, I really did…
