Hi all,
You may have noticed that the Skedda entries for Textiles have looked a little different as of late. This was done as part of our ongoing revamp, and I believe it is a little more useful and easier to navigate. This post is meant to give you an overview and some pointers when you’re making reservations.
In general: please do make reservations when using the Textiles machines and facilities. Our space is usually not crowded, but reserving a machine or workstation is still required.
First major change in Skedda is the split between “Textiles - Sewing” and “Textiles - All Other Crafts.”
This split was implemented to reduce the amount of horizontal scrolling we all have to do and is pretty much exactly what it sounds like: the Sewing section includes reservation slots for the Janome sewing machines, Brother embroidery machines, and the Juki industrial machine. All Other Crafts are the remaining machines and stations: sublimation, cutters (vinyl, Cricut), leatherwork, and worktables.
The tables are the other major change: what was previously one entry for “large cutting table” is now four entries of “1/4 large table”:
This was done because our new – significantly larger – table has four segments which allow multiple people to have their own reservation for a work space. Previously, a single user would have to reserve the entire table, which in most cases would technically block off the entire space for anyone else. I wanted to avoid technicalities of that nature and hopefully reduce the friction of making sure you have room to work with.
As always, if you can think of better ways to structure any of this, do let me know.
