Ceramics is on the hunt for a used electric skillet!

We’re looking for a 12”x12” electric skillet to use for melting wax. It will not be used for food ever again, so if you have one collecting dust or a little beat up in the back of that cabinet above the fridge we would love to give it a second life in the Ceramic Studio.

Let us know if you’ve got one to spare or if you spot one out in the wild!

Jason, I have an old crock pot for wax that I have used for glass castings. I would be happy to donate it. Also, very interested in where this project is going. Mel

Mel, unfortunately a standard crockpot won’t work for this purpose the walls are too high. We need something with low walls so we can maintain a shallow wax level, about ¼” at the bottom. The goal is to dip the bottoms of vessels into the wax, and in this case, it’s the 120 bowls we made for the Bowlathon.

Keeping the wax level low ensures a consistent wax line during the dip, and the low walls make it much easier to handle the vessels safely and efficiently

I have an electric griddle.

Thank you @JoeN. Maxine picked up an electric griddle on buy-nothing. If this one dies I will let you know
