Can someone help me find the proper name for this aluminum shape?

I want to make my own rack, and I could just buy this stuff on Amazon, but ultimately I want to know what the rest of the world calls it so I can shop around for a better deal since I think there’s something of a “modular” tax when it comes to materials like these. (extruded aluminum I think)

Sources for this stuff would be awesome of course, but I mainly just need google-able terms so I can shop around.

google 8020 aluminum extrusion

That will get you started

Thanks David! That helps a lot!

I found out that they’re usually called “Z Rails” in the modular world and apparently they also go by “T-slot” or “V-slot” elsewhere.

So now the goal is find a source cheaper than eurorack vendors. Hopefully there’s a decent delta between raw material suppliers vs the DIY vendors I’ve mostly found so far.

Check out 8020.net. There is a local company in Cedar Park area called Icon that does extrusion. Especially the European variety.
