Can someone cut 1/4” carbon steel for me?

I have a baking steel sheet that’s an inch or two too deep for my oven’s racks. I could fashion a way to support it without the oven rack or cut a piece off.

Does the machine shop have a tool that can cut this and would someone be willing to cut it for me? I can toss you some money for your trouble.

What are the overall dimensions of it currently?

Duh, that’s would be helpful: 16”x16”x3/8”

Any number of ways to do it. The DoAll it’s probably the quickest. Alternatively it could be milled off on the big mill.

The DoAll is the metal band saw? I’ve taken metal shop safety but I haven’t done much with metal.

Yes, the Do all is the huge bandsaw in the metal shop.

I’ve never heard of steel baking sheets. Usually they are aluminum. :man_shrugging:t2:

The DoAll is the only tool for this; plate like that is its main purpose. At 3/8” thick, you’ll want to use a lot of cutting fluid, and it will take some time.

It can be difficult to get the DoAll to cut straight; going slower will generally help there too. If you want a really straight edge, you’d follow the saw cut by milling the edge flat.

I could help but not until Thursday or later.

It’s not a baking sheet, it’s a heavy sheet of steel that preheats in your oven for an hour and then you can cook bread and pizza on it, think pizza stone but metal.

I might try to cut it early this week with your advice of slow and heavy cutting fluid. If it’s not something I feel I can do I’ll let you know. An uneven edge won’t bother me.

I have a circular saw that can cut it. It does wear on the blade a bit. Let me know if you are interested in that option?
