I few months ago Austin Kasper (@Kasper) had just completed his CNC Intro class and showed off his Bridge-themed Stool at the next day’s CNC SIG. We were all impressed with his work, and we thought it was a great design. I asked him if he could send me the file so I could make one myself. It’s small but a convenient size whose top is 19" x 10" and 9" high.
Well days became months and I finally got around to making my own out of 1/2" plywood. After making a few of adjustments to his VCarve file (he was using 5/8" plywood) and creating the tool paths I got to cut my own stool on some old 24" x 36" birch plywood on the small Laguna CNC.
A touch of sanding to get rid of the tabs, a little knife work to make things fit at the corners and I glued and clamped it together with Titebond III Ultimate Wood Glue.
This afternoon I returned to my glue-up, unclamped it and cleaned out some wood scraps I used to tightened the joints while it was drying. Although I used copious amount of wood glue I wanted to make sure it was safe by adding a screw on each of the legs, and around the top. What surprised me the most was it didn’t rock what-so-ever - it’s stable.
I brought it home and stained it with Mission Oak Polyshades. My plan is to donate to the Laser room, because I’m so short I have to stand on my tippy-toes to look into Tarkin. Now with the stool I can easily look in. Success! My plan is to mount it on a laser wall with some magnets.
