Is this event open for Kids? My son is really curious about the space and would be excited to have the opportunity to visit.
Great question @naveenrc! Children are welcome for this event – bring any family and friends you’d like. We’ve got the whole shop reserved for the party, so it’s a great time to show people the space. We’ll have some guest friendly activities that don’t involve running machines for any guests interested.
Another item that came up elsewhere was around bringing your own items to customize with the new brand. All are welcome to do this, the one request is that we try to stick as closely to the main brand colors as possible so we can keep the brand identity really clear and recognizable.
Colors:
- #2b2c6b – Deep indigo/navy
- #f1f4ef – off white (anything from light grey to white with or without a touch of warmth is good)
Here’s a visual –
For stuff using vinyl transfers, we will have these two vinyls (navy, blue to purple) for the darker brand color and just use white for the lighter one (unless someone else has something better to share!).
We’ll also have a lot of different designs ready to go with quick name customizations set up. Right before the party, we will upload folders with all the brand elements to the computers so people can also design their own stuff if they want.
If anyone has any other questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!
Is there a new logo? I don’t see where that is yet
@dannym yup! It is being revealed at the party
This event is tomorrow! We’ve got lots of swag for everyone and it’s FREE! You are welcome to donate towards the base cost which is listed in this spreadsheet, but no obligation whatsoever. We just want to share Asmbly with as many people as possible
Bring your family and friends — both young and old. Hope to see you there!
I was so hoping to be there but my flights got juggled and I’m going to miss the festivities
Looking forward to the videos and photos on IG and FB. Save me some dope swag
Let’s see pictures of everyone’s new Asmbly swag!!
Did you make it yourself, or did someone demonstrate the process for you?
Any new project ideas inspired by the swag today, lets hear about it.
Thanks to everyone who came out today. It was very nice to meet some new faces.
Having just joined last week, it was a pleasure to attend the festivities and meet so many of the volunteers and other members! Appreciate the help with personalizing my mug, USB drive, and T-shirt. Heard the cake was fabulous tasting - wish I had gotten a piece. The new logo is very nice.
Really looking forward to learning from fellow makers and making things!
Thank you everyone who made it out to the party! That was a ton of fun and it was great connecting with people and meeting several new members. I loved seeing all the excitement for the new brand. I can’t wait to see people with their swag in and out of the space
I must give some extra kudos and deep gratitude to several folks who were huge supports this week as well as at the party —
- @michleon100 – humongous thank you to Michael! He has been helping with preparations for this event for several weeks and even hunted down paint colors to match the new brand palette. He also helped test out swag items to verify settings and loaded all the computers with files so people could make their own designs. To top it off, he brought his famous 5 chocolate cookies THANK YOU!!!
- @Allzman – Art spent all Saturday evening and night hanging out with me in Textiles figuring out the correct temperatures and times for transfers, and making some shirts. He also brought up several of his own vinyl cutting supplies and precut several designs so we had some items ready to go at the start of the party. He also spent the party helping people make merch and ensured the food was cleaned up at the end – thank you for taking care of that Art!
- @GoodHabits – Gabrielle showed up to the party and immediately offered to help which turned into her cutting out an error in the direct to film transfers we ordered and helping run the heat press for the majority of the party. Thank you so much for jumping in and helping everyone stay safe with the heat press Gabrielle!
- @dgov – Daniel only joined a few weeks ago, but has immediately jumped in to help make an impact and right out the gate volunteered to make the awesome LED sign with the new branding. This sort of thing is his bread and butter, and it really shows (you can see more of his work on IG @danielgovandesigns)! We’ve now got a really sharp, eye-catching sign we can take to events (like TWF this weekend) and show off in the lobby. Thank you Daniel!
- @Jordanva2 and @stepho – As usual, both Jordan and Stephannie were huge helps in keeping things running smoothly and helping people make their own custom merch. Jordan offered up her rotary laser expertise to help people customize tumblers and water bottles. Stephannie used her sublimation expertise to help people with sublimating a variety of items including stainless steel bottle openers. Thank you ladies for keeping the making happening smoothly!
- @tomthm and @Vron – Tommy and Veronica were both super helpful throughout the event helping people make stuff. Special shoutout to Veronica for being a brand new member who just joined the On-Duty Volunteer team and immediately looked for things that needed doing and got it done. Thank you both for being such awesome volunteers in the space!
Several others were great helps for this event as well, but I wanted to make special mention of these folks above who really went above and beyond to make this event special. Thank you all!
I’m excited to see people’s pictures! I only got this one of @dgov with the awesome LED Asmbly sign he made and the accidental glow in the dark shirt @Allzman and I made for @mkmiller6 . I failed to get a pic of @SteveW with the sweet American flag with new Asmbly logo on it, hopefully someone else captured that.
Let’s see your pics!
Both flags (old and new logo) are hanging on the display wall in the lobby on french cleats. Feel free to grab one/both to take along to the convention this weekend.
Does anyone have a picture of them?
Without further delay, here are pics of @SteveW 's flag carvings! He has maybe already shared about the process in the CNC monthly meetup, but maybe can share a few details on Discourse as well (definitely worthy of its own post). You really gotta see it in person to fully appreciate the contours. It’s hanging on the member showcase wall along with the previous version with the old logo.
Happy to share the design process on this here but this is a perfect plug to come to the CNC Special Interest Group (SIG) this Sunday morning at 9 am in the MPR. All levels of CNC experience (none to mastery) are welcome. The creative seed for this month’s individual projects was 3d Kitchen. I can’t wait to see what others have made- my entry is almost done…
Someone I talked to at the party was asking me about this – Handy cheap tool set on Amazon (posted separately but linking here in case they are following this thread).
