Bowlathon: Making

Join us for a day of “making with a cause” as the Asmbly Ceramics Studio partners with Austin Empty Bowl Project (AEBP) to raise money for Central Texas Food Bank Kids Cafe and Meals on Wheels Central Texas! During this completely free event, the Asmbly pottery community will team up with potters from around Austin to reach our goal of making 120 bowls to donate to AEBP. Wheels will be spinning, hands will be building, and snacks will be free as we meet together with one simple goal: make bowls until we run out of time, or we run out of clay.

We will be hosting two “Bowlathons”, one for making the bowls, and a second for glazing. More details about the glazing bowlathon will be posted soon!

About the Austin Empty Bowl Project:

Through out the year local Austin area potters make thousands of soup bowls and donate them to the Austin Empty Bowl Project. At our annual event people are invited to pick out a ceramic bowl, choose from several delicious soups donated by some of the best Austin restaurants, listen to live music, and bid in a silent auction. After lunch, our guests take their bowls home with them as a reminder that others less fortunate have “empty bowls.” All proceeds will benefit Central Texas Food Bank Kids Cafe and Meals on Wheels Central Texas.

Hey all, the Bowlathon is coming up at the end of this month! There are a couple of spots left, please register if you would like to join! Whether you will be at the event or not, we are asking for help preparing for transport of the finished bowls by gathering packing items. We have been told that empty wine boxes from HEB are the perfect box, and they will usually give them if asked. We would love some help with gathering some packing supplies such as these wine boxes, styrofoam, or other soft packing materials. If you would be so kind as to save packaging and get it to me or Jason (Or leave it in “Up for Grabs” and let us know, we would really appreciate it!

I will be working an event at specs next weekend and will grab a stack  any larger liquor store (specs, total wine, some twin liquors) will have a giant stack of boxes at the front of the store that people can also grab from
