Big CNC Dust Barrel

Hey y’all,

Can everyone who uses the big CNC start dumping the dust barrel after their session? I dump it after each session and I’ve run into it being around half full several times in the past few months. It is a pain to lug that much weight out.

This is where it was at after my session today where I had ~20 mins of machine time doing pretty simple cuts. I imagine it has to take quite a few people not dumping it to get there.

Thanks!

Thank you for posting this and reminding folks that this is not an optional task. This is a requirement for anyone using the CNC.

Specifically steps 6 and 7 of the wiki, which is taught in all classes, says to empty the barrel and run a quick filter cleaning step. This is imperative for not only the courtesy of using a public space but also for the longevity of the tool. If you’ve ever used the CNC and thought “Wow this dust collector just isn’t cutting it” then it’s because the filter isn’t clean and has been neglected. If everyone ran the filter cleaning step after each use, it wouldn’t need to be dismantled regularly to clean.

Official warnings are sent out to members who neglect the required cleaning steps. I encourage you to submit a problem report next time you see this.

Add emptying the vacuum AND removing/cleaning the internal filter as well. That filter clogs very quickly with MDF sawdust and will kill airflow if it’s not kept clean.
