I can’t get the faceplate off the big lathe, the 46mm wrenches seem to have been opened larger than they are supposed to be so they don’t sit properly. I need to head out and can’t take my stock that is attached. Submitted it as a problem but wanted to post here so people are aware. Sorry for any inconvenience!
Hey Jason!
I’m so sorry about that! I’ll check out those wrenches. We also have a strap wrench that tends to help out when those faceplates get stuck. I’ll try to swing by and address this tomorrow! I’ll let you know where I set your stock
Just a sanity check, did that face plate need the 46 mm wrench? There are three wrench sizes in there. I don’t remember off the top of my head three what sizes they are.
When I got those wrenches I made sure I got a size to fit every Chuck or face plate we had.
Yes it needed the 46mm, any other wrench was too small.
The 46mm wrenches were bent way out of shape, closer to 54 mm. I smashed it back into place using a metal vice and calipers. For anyone doing this in the future, be very careful doing this so it doesn’t go less than 46mm, even a few decimals of mm’s and it’ll have to be bent open with some other means.
As for the faceplate… It’s really stuck on there. I tried using the wrenches when they fit properly and bent one of them clear out of shape again.
Was there anything weird about the faceplate when you screwed it on the headstock? It really is… quite stuck.
Just to double check, there’s not a set screw tightened on this faceplate is there? I can take a look in the evening
I didn’t notice anything off about it when I screwed it on, but I am pretty new to the lathe so take that with a grain a salt. Let me know if there’s any way I can help.
