Bakelite safe to laser?

Is it safe to laser engrave and/or cut Bakelite?
If yes, does anyone have any experience lasering it?

Wikipedia says “Bakelite formally polyoxybenzylmethyleneglycolanhydride, is a thermosetting phenol formaldehyde resin, formed from a condensation reaction of phenol with formaldehyde.”

I don’t know what the ASMBLY policy is, but formaldehyde is released during the burning of bakelite. From what I could find this happens between 300 and 400 degrees fahrenheit. I would suspect that phenol also might be released. Neither of which would you want to inhale.
