I’m sure most of you have noticed the work that’s been done in refurbishing the room in the back. I’ve taken to calling it the Aux Room because it’s short and clear.
If you haven’t heard, the refurbishment is happening as part of an expansion of the machine shop. The rear 60% of the room is the “Machine Shop Annex”. The back alcove is storage, about half for metal shop and half for general Asmbly items. The metal lathe will be moved to the the right of the door on the far wall. The near wall opposite will likely have a workbench. The lathe is being moved to provide space in the main shop for a new milling machine.
The remaining 40% of the space to the left of the door is unallocated. A proposal to make it into a “wet room”, a space for epoxy use and drying/curing in general, was started but never completed. Someone else had a lead on a water jet machine that might go there. But nothing will be decided until someone submits a finished proposal for that space to the board.
Right now, that area is still being used to complete the refurbishment. It is not available for general use now. The board will decide what the acceptable uses for that area are once I declare the refurbishment complete.
The refurbishment is about 80% complete. I’ve done the parts I intended to do. One significant job and a number of minor tasks remain; I will be posting about them in the “volunteers needed” forums soon. I’ll coordinate all these tasks and acquire any necessary materials for them.
In the meantime, we will start looking for our new mill in earnest!
