Asmbly’s next Demo Day is scheduled for Saturday, August 10th from 10:00am - 12:00pm!
Join us for an exciting demonstration of leatherworking techniques open to the public and free to attend. Led by our skilled member and leatherworker @Branislav, this event will be an excellent opportunity to understand the leather working process, and the wealth of project possibilities availlable with our leather working tools at Asmbly.
Hi everyone – I’ll be demonstrating how to wet form leather!
It’s a very simple and accessible process, and once you’ve seen how it’s done you’ll have a bunch of potential applications come to mind. I’ll be showing you how to make the trays shown in the pictures below, but the method is versatile and easily applicable to many other kinds of projects.
We’ll discuss best design practices, mold-making techniques (I promise it’s simpler than you might think), how to choose the right leather, and the forming process itself. I’ll also show you a few finishing steps that can add a little extra something to your final result.
I’m totally stoked @Branislav to attend this event! Your work is incredible and you’re an amazing teacher…I highly encourage everyone to attend and am looking forward to meeting more y’all there.
Branislav was working on these in this past week’s Sew Social, and they are just so cool. A multi-shop area project that I really do think is an accessible project for many members.
These would definitely make great holiday presents!
I was part of the first class Branislav gave, and even though i had taken a beginner class prior to that, at the end, i felt a little ashamed for not paying. The class was superb, lots of basic information and sharing of common mistakes along the insight of different tools and their use with the connotation whether it was really needed or not. Class was very well given. One third of the “wannabees” were ladies and they seemed to enjoy the class the most. So if i can, im looking forward to this class not only from the previous experience but it is also something in my bucket list. I would also recommend it to anybody at any level Branislav has a very laid back way of teaching in a way anybody can understand. He will engage you and convince you that “you” can and want to do leather work. You just don’t know it!
And yes: it’s very much my goal to convince everyone to at least try because it’s a lot more approachable and achievable than people think. Even if you don’t want to make classic items like wallets, bags, or belts, you can combine leatherwork with other crafts and enhance both.
I wanted to thank everyone who showed up today If there are any parts of the process or techniques you have questions about (including stitching or other finishing steps) feel free to drop me a line here and/or we can meet up at Asmbly. Hope you came away with something useful or inspiring!
