Thought I’d share a couple of my latest leather projects. Both items are going to a blacksmith who was incredibly generous and made me a fancy kitchen knife in exchange for donating to charity.
When he refused to take money, I offered to make him something. He only wanted a bracer, to wear in the forge for forearm protection when it’s too hot for a jacket:
I used Wickett & Craig English bridle leather – figured that if it stands up to horses it will stand up to a blacksmith as well. There’s a suede flap to protect against the skin from the grommets and lacing.
But after finishing the bracer, I decided he was being too dang humble so I made him this tool bag as well:
The bag is made of Tandy-issue natural vegtan, about 19" long and 7" around. The side panels are wet-molded (you know I couldn’t resist) to help it keeps its shape. Honestly though, using quality hardware is a real cheat code ![]()
I hope he’ll like it, because when I say the knife he basically gifted me is fancy, I really mean it is stunning:
