Hello Makers - I’m a very new member looking for a way to meet some new people and be useful as I learn my way around. But it looks like this topic was relevant back in start-up days but nothing current is showing up here now, while all the old opportunities are still visible, though the work has been done.
Is there another place to look for general and non-recurring volunteer opportunities now in 2025?
There’s a lot of folks that have space improvement ideas and would love to have some helping hands.
I tell you one that’s been on my list for a few weeks and I haven’t had a chance to get to. Is putting some small accessory cabinet in the new lobby and ceramics bathrooms. Something to hold few packs of toilet paper and maybe some Windex or other cleaning supplies. Certainly doesn’t have to be as tall as the one in the mpr and Woodshop bathroom
@jmccune90 Jim, what shop areas of Asmbly do you prefer to work in? Wood shop, metal shop ceramics, textiles, 3D printing, lasers, etc?
There are so many reoccurring cleaning, maintenance and enhancements that are needed on a weekly basis. Most maintenance will require training, but many can be done based on the level of experience a member has.
If you’re willing to help, we can definitely use it. Please share your shop areas areas of interest and we will connect you with the area Leads.
I’m looking forward to meeting you and hopefully working with you in the wood shop!
I have done woodworking (ShopSmith, remember those?) in the past but lately am trying to understand laser cutters and 3D printing to help me improve the packaging and functionality of some electronics projects I have in mind. So it looks like I need to contact Aneel regarding 3D printers, then Michael Leonard for laser cutters - assuming lead info I found on the Wiki is correct. Thanks for your enthusiastic response and I’m sure our paths will cross eventually! - Jim
