*Always* use cutting fluid when cutting steel

Just a reminder that you should always use cutting fluid when cutting any type of steel on any of the machines in the metal shop. This applies regardless of whether the machine has any built-in cutting fluid circulation – including the DoAll in particular. I keep seeing people cut steel on the DoAll without cutting fluid. This causes excessive wear on the blade and extra strain on the motor. You must use the provided coolant spray bottle to keep your piece wet in the vicinity of the blade. The DoAll blade has gotten horribly dull (replacements have been ordered) much sooner than it should have, and this is a key reason why. And when people use extra force to push a piece through the dull blade, it generates even more heat and puts even more strain on the motor. This may have contributed to its failure tonight.

You should also use coolant if you are cutting aluminum that is thicker than a half inch or so. In general, if you generate enough heat that you can’t comfortably hold the piece after a few seconds, you need to dissipate that heat with a cutting fluid.
