There are a few cases in the woodshop where sweeping or vacuuming will not suffice to clean wood chips or dust out of a tool or other object. Several of these cases occur on the router table, such as the holes for the router pins and sometimes the collets. So I have placed an air gun in the main tool drawer of the router table. It can connect to the air drops for quickly dealing with these cases. It can be used for similar situations elsewhere in the shop as long as it is returned to the table router drawer.
This is for use only in those cases where other methods do not work well. This is absolutely not to be used for general dust cleaning. Doing so is very inconsiderate of your fellow members, especially their lungs. Members observed using an air gun for such purpose in the wood shop (including the lathe and CNC areas) may receive official sanction, which could lead to suspension or even termination of your membership. (And remember, you are always on camera while at Asmbly.)
Note that compressed air is allowed in the metal shop, since we are dealing with chips that don’t vacuum easily and won’t stay airborne. But I do ask that all metal shop users be mindful of where they are blowing stray chips and to try to avoid blowing around any wood dust that settles in the metal shop.
