3D Printer beginner looking to learn the ropes

Hey ya’ll,

I am looking to dip my toes into the 3D printing world and would love to pick someones brain on the matter. I have some seemingly simple files saved from the thingiverse, just need a bit of help getting my first project started.

What I have to barter is leather working knowledge, some epoxy knowledge, product photography experience, or a lunch.

Let me know if you are willing to spare some time.

Thanks! -Mikey

You want to modify something from Thingiverse? Or combine / modify designs?

I think if you post specifics you’ll get a response here that’s more valuable than chatting with one person.

thanks for the clarifying question, I don’t believe I need to modify or combine any designs, just want to learn how to actually operate one of the printers by taking a pre-existing file and printing it. I am at the absolute ground floor with my knowledge here.

What kind ok help do you need with 3D printing? (installing slicers, setting various parameters etc etc) I believe i have some experience with it and might be of assistance. Let me know.

Thanks
LP

Hey LP,

Your questions have made me realize I gave myself too much credit by saying my knowledge is ground floor. I must be deep underground, I haven’t a clue what a slicer even is.

I will try to do some research as I’m learning this isn’t as simple as bring a file on an SD card and startup a machine.

Thanks! -Mikey

no worries. There are a lot of resources available online. I am sure you will be up and running in a couple of days. and you can always ask questions in the forum.

happy 3D printing.

If you’re looking to use Asmbly’s 3D printers you will need to take the class. The class should answer all of the questions you have.

If you have your own machine, it could be a steep learning curve. Calibration varies machine to machine and some can be difficult to work with.
