08/28/25 02:40PM 3D Printing - Prusa XL

Issue type: Equipment Problem
Area: 3D Printing
Equipment: Prusa XL
Summary: Tool Change error on 3rd head
Additional Info: Print failed after the ~2nd layer with this error. Left a lot of stringy filament of that color over the part. Just restarted the print after moving filament from tool head 3 to 5

Report generated from a filing. This report has also been sent to Asmbly staff, leadership, and space leads with any contact info that was provided. Provide additional photos or resources here to help. When the problem is resolved, ensure it is marked.

Green filament was on head 3

When the XL put that tool back on the holder, did I seem visibly mis-aligned?

When the error occurred the 3rd head was over the bed. When I moved the filament to 5, it seemed to put 3 back without misaligning it.

Hmm. Weird. You didn’t happen to take a picture of the error screen, did you? Or somehow capture the error number?

No, I forgot to. Will snap a pic next time if it comes up.

Thanks. We’ve seen tool changer problems before when trying to dock/undock, and it’s usually just a matter of recalibrating where the printer thinks each dock is. I haven’t seen a tool changer error in midflight. I wonder if the tool came loose in the moving part.

I ran a print this evening that had a lot of changes to/from tool 3, and didn’t see any problems. I’m going to call this “fixed”. Please open a new report if you see this problem again.

Someone has finished work on this and called it done.
Thank you for reporting it and helping us keep track of what needs attention.
