To clarify, the holder that holds the riving knife has one of the two locating pins missing. this allows the riving knife to pivot and can cause workpieces to be jammed depending on the type of cut people are doing. Needs a new pin pressed in or the holder mechanism replaced.
I ordered a new writhing knife holder assembly. It ran less than 50 bucks and it seems to be just the right thing.
You can see the photos side by side. The new one has two locating pins, the old one somehow only has one. Not sure what happened to it but I have a feeling it might be replaceable. I left it in the gray Stewart’s cabinet in case anyone wants to tinker with it and try to refurbish it.
Changing this out was pretty simple. Using an 8 mm allen wrench, make sure the blade is all the way down, and it also helps to take the blade out for a little more maneuverability. Maneuverability. Take the two bolts from the top out, take the assembly out, swap in the new one and replace the bolts. I also made sure to blow any extra dust out so it would seat correctly. While tightening the screws, you need to get it close to tight, then align it with the blade and start tightening it all the way. You may have to open the service hatch on the left side of the saw to get a good angle.
