Power cycling the machine will fix this

I discovered a new wrinkle with this issue today. When you find the z axis is inverted and you power cycle the machine to fix the issue assume that your z height setting is no longer correct.

I ran into this issue today while cutting a couple of pieces that I z zeroed to the machine bed. When I ran the second set of cuts I found that my z height was lowered significantly:
